The Gibraltar International Song Festival10:27 PM
SO the past few weeks have been a whirlwind full of hard work, dripping sweat and lots and lots of laughter! This time last weekend I had just checked out of the stunning Sunborn Yacht Hotel in Gibraltar, making the most of my last few hours in the beautiful Island-like country. My family and I ventured up to Europa Point before our departure and enjoyed the most breathtaking views... But more on that in my Gibraltar Photo Diary! I didn't get to bed until 4am last night as I was up editing photos and I had some serious withdrawal symptoms, haha, but I have no doubt that I will be back in Gibraltar sometime in the near future ;)
I wanted the first post to centre around the event itself, The Gibraltar International Song Festival, and the whole purpose of our trip. I arrived at the venue at 8pm last Saturday night and spent some time mingling with the other performers and songwriters, as well as feeling some pre-show jitters mixed with bouncing off the walls with excitement! I knew the evening was going to be a crazy one so I made sure to prioritise shooting some outfit photos for you guys.
My outfit in question is something that I just can't quite get over. If you follow me on instagram, you may remember me (very subtly) posting about some exciting fittings that I had and snaps of interesting fabrics... Well, that was all in preparation for the GISF! I wanted to wear something that represented who I am as an artist but just couldn't find anything to suit the occasion when shopping around. So... I put my creative thinking hat on and drew what I pictured in my head. The design process was pretty simple for me as I generally have a clear vision in my head of what I'm trying to achieve, so the next steps were fabric shopping and meetings with my dressmaker! It's a two piece costume: A one piece playsuit and a tutu style skirt. Backstage prior to the show, I just wore the playsuit and added the skirt just before I went on stage. I was so pleased with how many compliments I received for it, especially considering it is my own design. It was so incredible to see this vision of mine come to life... Exactly what I saw in my head, stood right in front of me on a mannequin. All I could say was: WOW.
Another unique addition to my costume are these seriously insane sneakers (see in full length shot below)... But I am so in love with them that I have decided I will talk about them in a completely separate post! ;) Aside from my costume, I thought I would take this opportunity to share some behind the scenes photos of myself with a number of the other performers/songwriters, as well as some friends and family members of mine who came out in force to support me.
I'm still on a high after the experience. There were a few minor hiccups along the way but the feeling of performing my own music, something that I started working on at the tender age of 12 years old, was something that I will never forget. Hope you enjoy the photos... Here's to the future!!! <3
P.S. Now that I have given my blog a facelift, I will be posting to a schedule from now on! Haven't quite decided the exact post days and times just yet, but I will be sorting that out in the next few days and sharing it with you when I know!!! :)
P.P.S. I will soon have the official video clip of my performance at the GISF and will be sure to share it with you guys then ;)
